Hemodialysis is the most common alternative therapeutic in patients with renal failure, which is used in Iran and the world. Widespread access to dialysis makes the lives hundreds of thousands patients with end-stage renal disease(ESRD) has longed.This process leads to repeated stress and pain to fistula cannulation. If can relieve this pain, improve treatment compliance and improve the quality of life in patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of two topical piroxicam and EMLA cream on fistula cannulation pain on hemodialysis patients. Study is trial, randomized, double-blind, controlled with placebo. The sample consisted of 75 dialysis patients (not suffering from psychological problems, addiction, chronic and acute pain or etc) with stratified method by age, gender, educational level and duration of fistula are blocking three Group A (piroxicam group), B (group EMLA cream) and C (control group) with equal numbers. In the first session of dialysis fistula cannulation procedure done without any interference and pain with using the VAS scale recorded. At the end of this session ,ointment tube that surface is covered with a transparent dressing disposal to patients. In the second session (next sessions of dialysis) for an hour before coming to the hospital, the patient rubbed ointment, covered with a transparent dressing and then cannulation is performed in the usual way and the pain is recorded. If unsuccessful on the first attempt and repeated needle cannulation of the skin, patient are excluded.
