Given the increasing prevalence of diabetes in the country, and recommendations of the World Health Organization Expert Committee about more investigation Herbal medicines as a method for treating diabetes and tender of most people to use herbal remedies instead of drugs; this study investigate the effect of nettle extract on glycemic index, lipid profile and insulin resistant in patients with type2 diabetes. A randomized double-blinded clinical trial was done on 60 patients with type2 diabetes in clinical diabetes for 8 weeks. Inclusion criteria: both genders over the age of 30 years old and common diabetes drugs usage (metformin, glibenclamid); patients not suffering from renal disorder and cardiovascular; do not use of NSAIDS(non steroid anti inflammatory drugs); not using estrogen and progesterone drugs. Patients were advised to continue their diet and physical activity habits without any changes during intervention and received 100mg/kg nettle extract and placebo 3 times a day after each 3 main meals. For admission of patients they dissolved one saccharin tablet in glasses of extract. Placebo well as water and green food preparation is allowed.
