Aim of this study was to evaluate effect of amoxicillin and metronidazole as adjunctive to scaling and root planning. 30 chronic periodontitis patients were selected who needed scaling and root planning.These patients were excluded from the study if they have used systemic antibiotics during last two months or subgingival scaling or periodontal surgery was done for them. Patients were divided into two equal groups and scaling was done for both of them. Amoxicillin with methronidazole were prescribed after scaling in test group for one week. Probing depth and clinical attachment loss were evaluated at base line and one month later.

Inclusion criteria: Systemically healthy; At least 12 teeth (without orthodontic appliances, implant, FPD, crown, third molar); Moderate to severe chronic periodontitis (mean CAL>3); At least 4 teeth with PD>4 and positive BOP; Radiographic view of bone loss
Exclusion criteria: Systemic antibiotic and NSAIDS usage in last 2 months; SRP or periodontal surgery in last year; smoking
