Assessment of mannequin based intubation training in the first year residents of anesthesiology in terms of practical skills and assessment of the level of satisfaction.
Intubation training is one of the most important issues in the curriculum of the Anesthesiology’s residents. To achieve this, there are two method of teaching: firstly, on the patients’ bedside in the operating room, and secondly, it can be performed using a mannequin to teach the residents before direct practicing on the patients. Nowadays, the second choice for patient’s safety concern is of utmost acceptance.
The inclusion criterion: all of novice residents of anesthesiology in the Tehran University of Medical Sciences during one year (they are 25 persons).
The exclusion criterion: any history of participation of the residents in an intubation training program during their previous carrier.
Method of the study: All residents will be enrolled in one week program of Intubation training using mannequin along with theoretical courses regarding to the practical key points. Before and after that program they will be undertaken a Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) test to assess their theoretical progress during the scheme.
After the program, the residents will have been undertaken Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) to evaluate their practical skills. In addition, there is one satisfaction Likert’s questionnaire to evaluate whether residents are satisfied with the entire program or not. Moreover, professors also are asked of their satisfaction with the attitude and skillfulness of the residents.
The primary outcome is the evaluation of the practical skills of the residents and the secondary outcome is assessment of the satisfaction in both residents and university attending.
