A clinical trial comparing the effectiveness of teaching based on Team Member Teaching Design model and the routine procedure on the knowledge of diabetes across the community covered by health workers
This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of teaching based on Team Member Teaching Design model and the routine procedure on the knowledge of diabetes across the community covered by health workers. For this purpose, 24 health workers in Birjand, who had informed consent for participation, were selected by convenience sampling method. They were allocated into case and control groups via simple allocation method. The cases received training on the model by attending the Birjand-based health education department. At the end of the course, they were subjected to post-test. Subsequently, 180 people under the supervision of these health workers were selected randomly and assigned into the same groups as were the health workers. Major inclusion criteria for the people covered consisted of age 30 to 50 years; informed consent to participate in the study; lack of training about diabetes; and being non-diabetic themselves or their family members. Before intervention, a pre-test is given to both groups. In the control group, the teaching of diabetes contents was performed by distributing the national pamphlet on the Diabetes Control and Care compiled by the Disease Control Center of the Non-Communicable Disease Management Center of the Ministry of Health. In the intervention group, the contents of the pamphlet were taught based on Team Member Teaching Design model. A post-test was given to both groups to measure their knowledge about diabetes.

(Inclusion criteria: A. Health Workers: Health worker working in a health house across Birjand county; provision of informed consent for participation.
B. Population covered by health workers: age from 30 to 50 years; provision of informed consent for participation; no history of receiving education on diabetes; no mental problem or barrier to learning; no history of significant unpleasant incidence (such as loss of relatives, etc.) within the past 6 months; a minimum degree of high school diploma; not diabetic; and no diabetic family member.)
(Exclusion criteria: A. Health Workers: Unwillingness to continue participation; occurrence or experience of an unexpected incidence or crisis that inhibits from proper cooperation; failure to gain a passing score on Team Member Teaching Design model. B. Population covered by health workers: Unwillingness to continue participation; occurrence or experience of an unexpected incidence or crisis that inhibits from proper cooperation; absence from educational sessions for one session.)
