The Effectiveness of Parent Management Training (PMT) on quality of life among parents of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Objectives: Effect of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) on families with affected children is understood. Parents of children suffering ADHD undergo an increased level of mental pressure during children’s’ education and feel desperate. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Parent Management Training on quality of life among Parents of Children with ADHD.
Design: In this non randomized 3rd phase clinical trial which was not blinded, 30 parents who have a 1 to 12 years old child suffering from ADHD, diagnosed by a child psychiatrist (based on DSM-IV-TR criteria’s ) and have at least diploma will be included in study after writing a written consent. Parents with suspected psychosis, drug abuse history or with absence in more than one session of training program will be excluded from study. This group will be randomly divided into two equal groups, one control group and one intervention group.
Intervention group will go through 8 sessions of 1 hour Parental management training every week. This training will include topics like ADHD diagnosis and influential factors on children‘s behavior, methods of observation and behavior record, enhancing the relationship between parents and children and methods of training new skills for children, increasing appropriate behaviors and decreasing inappropriate behaviors, effective usage of punishment and behavior modification technique practice, family atmosphere and defining troubled situation and coping with common problems. A questionnaire will be filled by parents before and 2 months after intervention. The Effectiveness of Parent Management Training on quality of life and stress among parents of children suffering ADHD in both groups will be examined and compared.
