This is a clinical trial for evaluation of the effects of supplementation with vitamin E and omega- 3, on 100 students between 18 and 30 years, with primary dysmenorrhea in the girls dormitory of Ahvaz University of Medical Sciences. Inclusion criteria: having primary dysmenorrhea , single, living in dormitory and exclusion criteria include irregular menstrual cycles, abnormal discharge, itching and burning.
Subjects were randomly divided into four groups (using table of random numbers) consist of recipients of supplemental vitamin E, omega 3 supplement, omega 3+ Vit E and placebo group (each group 25 cases). Vitamin E 200 units will be given orally for 5 days, 2 days before and 3 days after period to take a daily pill. Patients receive omega 3 daily 300 mg of Omega 3 (180 mg docosahexaenoic acid + 120 mg eicosapentaenoic acid) and the group receiving vitamin E and omega-3 daily (5 days), vitamin E 200 units +300 mg of omega-3 (180 docosahexaenoic acid acid mg +120 mg eicosapentaenoic acid). In this study supplement and placebo were similar in appearance and patients randomized to receive supplement and placebo and will be unaware of this issue. Duration of menstruation (days), the interval between periods (days), duration of pain at each time period (day and hour) and measurement of pain through questionnaires and standard tools (visual analogue scale) will be carried out.
