The effect of programmed education and nurse's clinical competence on post-op complications of open heart surgery patients at Alzahra Hospital compared with patients who received only routine training with pamphlet (in 2014)
The purpose of this study is investigation the effect of programmed education and nurse’s clinical competence on post-op complications of open heart surgery patients. The Inclusion criteria in this study consist of open heart surgery candidate, absence of chronic disease (expected risk factor of heart disease), absence of vision, hearing, speaking, cognitive impairment. Exclusion criteria: prolonged hospitalization more than one week. One hundred forty four patients candidate for open heart surgery were divided into two equal groups, control group and intervention group. The intervention in this study was, 3 sessions training program with family in the intervention group (the first session was before surgery and second and third were in the third and fifth day after surgery, each session prolonged 30-40 min). Patients in the control group received education pamphlets. Also the nurse’s clinical competence, evaluated before patient’s interventions with questionnaire. The effect of educations and nurse’s clinical competence on post op complications, investigated 3 weeks after surgery. The education contained all the training and information needed for post-operative care. The primary outcome measure was, patient's post op complications.
