The effects of positive psychology interventions on the quality of prenatal care provided by midwives

This study randomized clinical trial with a control group as pre-test and post-test is performed on 60 midwives working in health centers, Mashhad with aim to determine the effect of positive psychology interventions on the quality of prenatal care provided by midwives in 2015. The inclusion criteria include midwifery BC degree or higher; no pregnancy; married; one year of work experience; no depression or obtaining mild to moderate score from depression, anxiety, stress scale (DASS21); lack of psychiatric diseases; or using the drugs affecting mental status on the present or the past; and no experience of major stressful event during the past six months. Exclusion criteria include the absence of > 1 session; the occurrence of major stressful event during the study; lack of performing homework related to three consecutive sessions. Inclusion criteria of pregnant mothers include gestational age of 26-30 weeks; wanted pregnancy; low-risk pregnancy and lack of underlying disease. Exclusion criteria for pregnant women during the study include the risk of pregnancy during the study; the occurrence of major stressful event during the study; disease during the study. Interventions include 2-hour eight training sessions derived from Rashid and Seligman positive psychotherapy Protocol (2006), which Will be held in two sessions per week. Oxford Happiness Questionnaire and Reef Psychological well-being Questionnaire are completed by midwives before and after the interventions. Also, after observing two pregnant women by each of the subjects, prenatal care quality questionnaire are completed through interviews with pregnant mothers before and after the interventions.
