Effect of cognitive remediation therapy on cognitive defecits ( attention,memory,executive function) and symptoms of people with chronic schizophrenia according to cognitive levels
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of cognitive remediation therapy on improving cognitive deficits (i.e. attention, memory and executive function) and symptoms of patients with schizophrenia according to cognitive levels.
Inclusion criteria: definitive diagnosis of schizophrenia and who have been given a score under 26 using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.
Exclusion criteria: Head injury and intellectual disability.
The study population will be the hospitalized patients with definitive schizophrenia at the Tolou Rehabilitation Center in Tehran. The sample size will be 30 patients. These patients will be assigned to two different groups using two methods. each group contains 15 patients.The first method will be clinical interview with expert judge . and the second method will undergo the Montreal Cognitive Test score.
The first group will contain patients with low cognitive deficits and the second group will contain patients with moderate cognitive deficits.
The Classic Stroop, Continuous Performance Test, N-back, Wisconsin Sorting Cards Test Tower of London and Scale for the assessment of negative and positive symptoms will be the tests to be used. Both groups will receive Cognitive Remediation Therapy by Sholberg and Mateer(2001) which includes 16 group intervention sessions with specific instructions and each session will last between 30 to 45 minutes. This intervention reduces or eliminates the patient's cognitive deficits by practicing and using the remaining and healthy skills.

Inclusion/Exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Having schizophrenia diagnose according to DSM 5;Patient should have cognitive deficit according to MoCA test results,scoring under 26 in this test;Patients score should be more than 35 in SAPS(Scale for the Assessment of Positive Symptoms) nad more than 24 in SANS(Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms);Patients age should be between 25 ot 50;At least 2 years have passed since the onset of the disorder;The patient had at least studied up to fifth grade in elementry school.
EXCLUSION CRITERIA:Having head injury,Dementia and other specific Neurological disorder which needs special treatment;Having the diagnose of Intellectual Disability;Patient have serious side effects related to Anti psychotic drugs and receive special treatment for that;Patient be in the acute phase of the disorder;Patient be affected by abuse,poisoning or deprivation of any herbal medicine,smoking does not include; Receiving ECT during past six months.
