Comparison of the efficacy of communication skills workshop, watching movie, and their combination in enhancement of empathy in medical students (in clinical rotations)
This study has been designed in order to compare the efficacy of communication skills workshop and watching movie in empathy enhancement of medical students.
Medical students who are under education in clinical stages at different wards of Rasool E Akram hospital in 2016,2017, will be included in the study, if they give informed consent to participate in the study. The students will be randomized to one of the following four groups:
1. Participation in communication skills workshop
2. Watching “The Doctor” movie
3. First, watching “The Doctor” movie and then, participation in workshop
4. Control group, with no intervention.
Sample size in each group will be 14 persons which makes a total size of 56 persons. Alpha error is considered to be equivalent to 0.05.
Empathy of each participant will be measured three times by Jefferson scale of empathy,student version (JSE,S version):
1. Before the intervention
2. Immediately after the intervention
3. 1 month after the intervention.
Finally, the effect of interventions on empathy will be evaluated.

1. Under training in a clinical course of medicine
2. Signing the informed consent to participate in the study
Exclusion criteria:
Students of psychiatry ward (to prevent possible confounding effect of learning empathy in this ward)
