Protocol summary

Summary
Anesthesia induction is a stressful event for children and their parents, and may have potentially harmful consequences to the patient’s physiological and mental situation. Traumatic anesthesia induction has psychological consequences that recur with repeated anesthesia, increase pediatric discomfort during the recovery period, and may even induce reactionary postoperative behavior. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of parental presence during induction of anesthesia on anxiety scores in pediatric patients. This clinical trial will be performed on two groups of 48 children with ASA 1 and 2 undergoing elective minor surgery at Mofid Children Hospital. Parents unwilling to continue the study will be excluded. Both groups will receive Midazolam 0.5 mg/kg at least 20 minutes before surgery but in case group one of the parents will be present in the operating room until induction of anesthesia and loss of consciousness of the patient .Anxiety in children (m-YPAS), parental anxiety (STAI), cooperation of patient with anesthesiologist at induction of anesthesia (ICC) and parental satisfaction (VAS) will be measured. Data collected in two groups will be compared.
