Protocol summary

Summary
The purpose of this study is to evaluate Omega-3 consumption on quality of life of people with premenstrual syndrome using PSST and SF-12 questionnaires. In this double blind placebo controlled study, 90 students living in dormitories who meet eligibility criteria will be randomly into omega-3 or placebo group. Participants will take 2 capsules of 0mega-3 or placebo daily in the first month. They will take capsules in the second and third months since 8 days before menstruation until 2 days after onset of menstrual bleeding. PSST and SF-12 questionnaires will be filled by participants every month.

Inclusion/Exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Age 20-35 years, single girls, normal cycle (duration of cycle 22-35, bleeding 3-7 days), normal BMI (18.5-25), PMS according to PSST questionnaire Exclusion criteria: any history of disease such as hepatic, renal, or respiratory cardiac, diabetes, or respiratory diseases, presence of secondary dysmenorrheal, sea food allergy, use of alcohol, smoking, presence of chronic diseases such as like migraine, use of any drug affecting PMS such as OCP or B6, stressful condition like death of family members
