Effect of spiritual concepts on anxiety and depression in type 2 diabetic patients referred to diabetic clinic in Emam Reza Clinic affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, 1396

The aim of this clinical trial is to assess the effect of spiritual course on anxiety and depression in diabetes type 2 patients.

Randomized clinical trial.

146 subjects are divided into two groups, 73 subjects in each group of case and control. Subjects who meet the inclusion criteria are selected from patients with diabetes type 2 through purposive sampling and simple random sampling. Then using block randomization with the block size of 4, they are divided into two groups of control and intervention. Subjects in the intervention group will participate in a training workshop on spiritual and religious points to help them elevate their ability to solve the problem and relieve their emotions more easily; the workshop consists of 4 training sessions and lasts for 2 weeks. Data will be collected from the control and intervention groups In three stages using Beck Anxiety Inventory and Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory: in the beginning of the study and then once again immediately after completion of the intervention. During the intervention, the two methods of problem-based learning and group discussion will be used; the training will include topics such as self-knowledge and self-awareness, recognition of weaknesses and strengths, acceptance of mistakes, important role of quality of life in psychological and physical aspects, etc.

Inclusion Criteria: patients with diabet type 2, being Muslim and Shiite and having an ordinary spiritual level; Exclusion criteria: lack of willingness to continue participation in the study, failure to attend.

Subjects in the intervention group will attend a 2-week workshop and will participate in 4 sessions of spiritual trainings to elevate their ability to solve the problem and relieve their emotions more easily.

Anxiety

Subjects who meet the inclusion criteria are selected from patients with diabet type 2 through convenience sampling. Then participants will randomly assign to intervention and control groups. In order to evenly distribute the participants, a block randomization list (with block-sizes of 4 at 6 variation) will prepare by a statistician, and will give to two persons in reception unit in the form of sequentially numbered, sealed opaque envelopes, to provide concealment allocation to the group.
