To compare the effects of teaching via visual thinking strategies and routine training on lifestyle and hypertension control in hypertensive patients
Design
In this study, 76 eligible patients referring to health centers of Birjand were selected through convenience sampling method. The participants were randomly divided into intervention and control groups (using the table of random numbers) and each participant was assigned a code.
Settings and conduct
The research was conducted in the education hall of the health center (number 4) in Birjand. At first, the participants' blood pressure was measured, and the lifestyle questionnaire was completed. In addition to the routine training, the intervention group members received training via visual thinking strategies in five sessions, while the controls received the routine training. After the 5 sessions finished and two months later, the members of both groups completed the lifestyle questionnaire, and their blood pressure was measured. The study was not blinded.
Participants/Inclusion and exclusion criteria
Major inclusion criteria: Age between 18 and 60 years; diagnosis of high blood pressure in the person at least two months earlier; and signing the written informed consent form. Major exclusion criterion:
Lack of appropriate auditory, visual, cognitive, and communicative health
Intervention groups
Intervention group (visual thinking): In addition to the routine training, they received training via visual thinking strategies in 5 sessions.
Control group (routine training): They only received the routine training.
