The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of education on the awareness of primary school children about burn prevention and taking initial actions encountering burns.
Design
Interventional, educational-based, single group, random, not blind, sample size 150 students
Settings and conduct
The study is conducted in 6 girls and boys' primary and secondary schools in three different educational areas of Tehran, the fourth to sixth grade. Training is taught at a 50-minute session with a specific lesson plan by a trained expert using magnetic board. Educational content is about prevention and taking first steps in dealing with burns. The level of awareness of children before and after training is evaluated immediately and 1 to 3 months after the training by check list.
Participants/Inclusion and exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 10-12 years old, obtaining warrant from the Tehran Office of Education and Research, satisfaction and cooperation of school officials, students' consent to attend training sessions and Exclusion criteria: students' dissatisfaction with participation in training sessions
Intervention groups
Intervention group: preventive training and taking initial actions encountering burn
