A comparison of reduce pulmonary complications with early ambulation in two groups, 24 hours and 48 hours after admission to the ICU in patients with Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
Purpose of this study is to reduce pulmonary complications in patients after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG). Forty patients aged 30 to 65 years underwent Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) and had no limitations to walking prior to surgery and their Ejection Fraction was more than 40%. Patients were randomly divided in to 2 groups. First group, 24 hours after surgery had drains postoperative, as well as other routine postoperative connections (e.g. drains and catheters) and started walking for about 20 meters and then returned to bed. These patients also carried a Pulse Oximeter and were monitored for any possible hemodynamic instability were transferred to the bed. Half hour after walking, then every 2 hours, arterial blood gas (ABG) and vital Signs (BP, HR) were monitored, this process were repeated after 6 hours. IN second group of patients 48 hours after spending in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) all catheters and drains removed, prior to transferred to surgical ward on wheelchair, according to ward routine they can walking. While in ICU, these patients underwent Spirometry as well as active movements in bed.
