Menorrhagia is one of the most common gynecological problems and one of the causes of poor quality of life and iron deficiency anemia in women of reproductive age. As there is no research on the effect of Capsella Bursa-Pastoris on menorrhagia, this study is conducted to determine the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Capsella Bursa-Pastoris on menorrhagia.
In this clinical trial, 90 women with complaint of menorrhagia were selected and after a control cycle for evaluating the primary bleeding volume, using Exel software,were randomly allocated to capsella bursa pastoris or control groups.
Inclusion criteria:Body mass index between 18.5-29.9, Affected by menorrhagia, Age between 18-45 years. No history of known systemic or pelvic inflammatory diseases, Not pregnant, Not consumption of specific medications, No abnormal pap smear or ultrasonography, No history of sensitivity to medicinal plants.
Exclusion criteria: sensitivity to the study medications, Failure to adhere to prescribed treatment, Unwilling to continue participation in the study, Tacking any herbal or chemical drug during the study.
Both groups were subjected to mefenamic acid capsule with 500 mg every 8 hours,from the first day to the end of bleeding,up to seven days, for two consecutive cycles. In capsella bursa pastoris group, in addition to mefenamic acid, capsella bursa pastoris capsules, two capsules every 12 hours per day.from the first day to the end of bleeding,up to sevsn days , were prescribed.In control group, instead of capsella bursa pastoris capsules, placebo of capsella bursa pastoris was prescribed with the same order. Data on the amount and duration of bleeding (using Higam chart) were checked and compared before and after treatment using SPSS software.
