Study aim
The effect of intraoperative lidocaine-epinephrine administration on complications after tonsillectomy
Design
A randomized double-blind clinical trial with a control group with parallel groups, phase 3 on 110 patients, Permuted block randomization.
Settings and conduct
This study will be performed to evaluate the effect of lidocaine-epinephrine administration in reducing complications after tonsillectomy in patients referred to Kowsar Hospital in Sanandaj. In this study, in the intervention group, lidocaine impregnated with epinephrine was injected into the tonsil bed during the operation and its effects on reducing complications such as pain and bleeding after the operation were evaluated. In this double-blind study, patients and nurses evaluating the conditions and complications in patients are not aware of grouping.
Participants/Inclusion and exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: 1.Informed consent of the patient or parents. 2.Intravenous anesthesia induction planning. 3.Being in Status 1 or 2 ASA classification. Exclusion Criteria: 1.Sensitivity to local anesthetics. 2.History of cardiovascular disease. 3.Occurrence of life-threatening conditions such as cardiopulmonary arrest. 4.History of mental and psychological disease
Intervention groups
Intervention group: In this group of patients, lidocaine 1% and epinephrine 1/100,000 are administered in the tonsils bed. control group: This group of patients does not have any intervention compared to the usual surgical conditions.
Main outcome variables
‌1. Pain 2. Bleeding 3. Length of hospitalization.

Description
Intervention group: Injection of lidocaine 1% - epinephrine 1 in 100,000 in the tonsil bed before surgery. In this group, before starting the surgical procedure, the surgeon injects 4 ml of 1% lidocaine, which is in a syringe soaked in epinephrine 1 in 100,000, into the tonsil bed.
