Summary
One of the most common umbilical problems in neonates is umbilical granuloma, causing inflammation and drainage. This study was carried out to compare the effect of 2 and 24 hours salt (NaCl) in the treatment of neonatal umbilical granuloma. This is a controlled clinical trial study, done at neonatal NICU and infant Follow–up clinic of Emamreza hospital, Mashhad university of Medical sciences. 40 Neonates were randomly assigned to one of two groups. Group 1, including 20 infants with umbilical granuloma was undergone 24 hours treatment with salt group 2, including 20 infants was undergone 2 hours treatment with salt. In the first the salt was not washed out and or cleaned during this period. In the second group, the salt was washed by boiled water every 2 hours. The neonates were visited every day and healing process will be recorded. If there was no sign of healing, treatment with salt was continued until full recovery. Separation of umbilical cord and side effects was compared between two groups.
