Anesthesia education is a comprehensive process that plays an important role in making students prepared in general dentistry. The aim of this study is to compare dental students’ preference to tactile and visually determined site of insertion of children inferior alveolar nerve block. In this cross-over randomized clinical trial, students of Zahedan Dental School were selected (n=42). An inclusion criterion was choosing of practical pediatric dentistry course 1 in the first academic semester of 2015-16 at Zahedan Dental School. Having previous experience of administrating inferior alveolar nerve block for children was considered as exclusion criteria. Subjects were divided into two groups using table of random numbers. During the first phase, group I were trained to find insertion point of inferior alveolar nerve block via tactile method and the remaining (group II) instructed to do inferior alveolar nerve block using visual method to distinguish insertion point. In the second phase, groups were trained using the method not previously applied. In both phases, live demonstration was conducted by one instructor and immediately after education; the learners delivered inferior alveolar nerve block using the corresponding method. Students then responded to questionnaire consisting of 5 items on a five Likert-type scale. Overall preference score were determined by calculating mean of item scores. The analyzer was blind regarding the method of education.
