Protocol summary

Summary
This study was performed to determine the efficacy of probiotic yoghurt and clindamycin in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis in pregnant women in the second and third trimester, referring to Imam Hospital. In this randomized clinical trial, 300 pregnant women in the second and third trimester, after diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis, were assigned to receive either probiotic yoghurt (100 gram twice a day for one week) or orally-administered clindamycin (300 mg twice a day for one week). The patients were visited after one week of therapy for recurrence of symptoms and recheck of vaginal PH and were followed until the end of pregnancy for symptom recurrence with phone call and pregnancy outcomes (pretem labor, PROM) were compared between the two groups.

Inclusion criteria: women in second or third trimester of pregnancy who had bacterial vaginosis according to the presence of minimally three Amsel Criteria, willing to participate Exclusion criteria: having a positive history of background disease, positive urine culture, having a positive history of preterm labor and premature rupture of the membranes, other vaginal infections
