Protocol summary

Summary
The objective of this randomized double blind single centre clinical trial is to compare the effects of Doxycycline and Zinc sulfate in the treatment of acne. A total of 80 patients with acne who come to Sina hospital will be assigned into the following groups. The first group will receive doxycycline capsule, 1 00 mg, or 30 mg elemental zinc once daily. The patients in both groups will receive topical clindamycin 1%. Primary outcome is inflammatory and non inflammatory lesions and secondary outcome is total score of acne and disease treatment.

Inclusion/Exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: age 18-40 years old – mild to moderate acne – acne since more than 2 months ago Exclusion criteria: severe and nodulocystic acne – pregnancy and breast feeding – other skin disease in face – use of systemic and topical steroids, lithium, B group vitamins, iodide or bromium, antibacterial soap and antiseptic soloutions, oral and topical antibiotics and zinc and systemic and topical anti acne drugs in recent 1 month and isotretinoin in recent 2 months and antiacid drugs and calcium and iron based agents
