Objective: Pain is of the most important post operative complaints of patients. Analgesics especially narcotic have complications, the most effective approach could be integration of pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. Guided imagery is one of the non- pharmacological. This study aimed to observe the effect of Guided imagery on pain of orthopedic surgeries in traumatic patients.
Design study: simple none randomize, then with randomize assigned, were placed in two groups including a control group and a intervention group.
Methodology: The population traumatic patients, seventy four traumatic patients with lower extremity fracture needed to internal fixation were assigned in two groups of control (37) and intervention (37).Control group received just routine care. Intervention group received both routine care and guided imagery in which they listened to guided to CD of guided imagery for 18 minutes twice a day from 3 days before operation to 3 days after surgery. Pain of both groups were measured by McGill Pain Questionnaire every 12 hours, and by numerical scale of pain every 6 hours.

Inclusion/Exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria:
Completing Informed consent ; Lower extremity fracture ; Need internal fixation for treatment; Age of 18-50 years ; Numerical score of pain less than 6; Speak and understand Farsi ; Iranian ; Reading and writing literacy
Exclusion criteria: History of taking psychiatric drugs in recent 6 month; head trauma; multiple trauma; deafness; pain score more than 6 before intervention ; any disease which aggravate pain; no tendency for continuing study; operation sit infection; compartment syndrome; post operative ICU hospitalization; Guided imagery less than 2 hours before and after operation
