The effect of peer education based on health belief model on preventive behaviors of urinary tract infection in grade one high school femalel students of Shiraz, 2014
This is a quasi-experimental study. Goal of the study was the determination of the effect of peer education based on health belief model on the preventive behaviors of urinary tract infection in grade one high school female students in the Shiraz. Participants (N=168) are selected by cluster and simple sampling method from 4 high schools and assigned into two groups: case and control groups ( two group of 84 each). After obtaining informed consent, researcher made questionnaire based on health belief model were completed by participants before the intervention. Inclusion criteria included enrollment in the first year of high school and agreement to participation in the study; while exclusion criteria included who had history of participation in educational classes about urinary tract infection; missed more than one session of classes and unwillingness to participate in the study. In the intervention group peer educator was selected based on their score in pretest and recommendation of their teachers, then participated in two-two hour session and then peer educator trained other students in two-one hour sessions. The participant of the control group received no intervention. The questionnaires completed by the participants of both groups immediately and one month after the intervention to ensure the sustainability of trainings. The study lasted for a three month period in both groups. Expected outcomes after intervention was that mean score of health behaviors in the intervention group compared to control group show a significant difference.
