Objective:
Comparison of oral versus written feedback to nursing students during clinical instruction
Methods:
This is a single blind, double group randomized controlled trial. A purposive sample of last semester-nursing students was selected and randomly assigned in to one of verbal or written feedback groups with their instructors . Each instructor was scheduled to teach two groups including 7 students, so that each group received only one of verbal or written feed backs. The study settings were Coronary Care Unit (CCU), surgical ward, and neonatal unit.
Before initiation of clinical instruction, all the three instructors were well attuned to feedback delivery sessions they would hold during their instructional tasks. Instructors were asked to give necessary feed backs to the students at least once a day as soon as possible and document with details using the checklists designed for this purpose during the instruction . At the end of each instruction period, a questionnaire regarding the quality of feedback delivery sessions was filled by both the instructors and students.
