(1)Objectives: determination the effect of intervention based on information-motivation-behavioral skills model in prevention of alveolar osteitis (dry socket)
(2)Design (study groups and phase, sample size, blinding, randomization, single or multi center): study was done on 204 people who came to surgery department of dentistry college of zahedan to extract wisdom tooth of the lower jaw. The participants are randomely divided into two groups of control and intervention and are studied in a parallel, single-blind way. The study is of a single-center kind.
(3) Setting and conduct: the control group will receive the common training of the surgery department of dentistry college about after-extraction cares and the intervention group will receive the training based on information-motivation-behavior skills model. this training will be done in a 20-minutes session, face to face, with an individual discussion and giving out a designed pamphlet based on this model.
(4) Participants including major eligibility criteria: the patients who want to extract the wisdom tooth of the lower jaw and have the letter of satisfaction to participate in the study and don't have precedent of having dry socket.
(5) Intervention: before tooth extraction, based on information-motivation-behavioral skills model
(6) main outcome measures (primary and secondary outcome variables): the number of patients suffering from dry socket

intervention group: this group will know about the dry socket in a 20-minutes session, giving out a designed pamphlet based on the information-motivation-behavior skills model and will be trained about after-extraction cares. these cares include keeping gauze on the socket of tooth for one hour, not spitting, not drinking liquids by straw, not eating or drinking hot food or hot liquid for one day and gargling with saline the next day.
