The effectiveness of emotional intelligence training on academic motivation, academic performance and achievement motivation in high school students with academic failure
The purpose of the current study is to determine the effectiveness of emotional intelligence training on academic motivation, academic performance and achievement motivation in high school students with academic failure. In this clinical trial study; the study sample included 40 female high school students. Participants select through Cluster sampling method (multistage). Participants sign a statement of informed consent informing them of their freedom to withdraw at any time. The experimental group receive eight sessions of Emotional intelligence training (base on Goleman's Emotional Intelligence theory) and control group receive no training. Before the training sessions start, the participants complete Bar-on emotional intelligence questionnaire, Pham and Taylor's academic performance Inventory, Herman’s achievement motivation scale and Vallerand’s academic motivation scale and at the end of the treatment, once again assess the experimental and the control groups. The inclusion criteria are having an academic failure in two semesters; Emotional Intelligence score is less than 90; Willingness to participate in emotional intelligence training sessions. The exclusion criteria are having any severe mental problem; at the same time, receiving psychiatric or psychotherapy treatments (participants should not receive psychological treatment or medication at least six months before research).

Description
For teaching this program eight teaching sessions of 90 minutes is required.
This protocol is based on teaching four skills of emotional intelligence including the self-awareness, self-management, awareness of the emotions of others or social awareness and relationship management. The first two skills focus on the individual himself and the last two skills focus on contact with others.
