Summary
Purpose: an investigation into the effect of training peer-based parenting skills on parent-child relationships in Gypsy families residing in Harandi square, Tehran, Iran. Study Design: having before and after randomized clinical trial with control group. Research Population: all the Gypsy families residing in Harandi square (the former Ghar square), Tehran, Iran Inclusion Criteria: having children ageing 6 to 12 years old; satisfaction and biological relationship between the child and parent (Father or Mother). Exclusion Criteria: the absence of parent for two sessions; the occurrence of a critical event in the family. Intervention: • Performing an initial assessment of parent-child relationship using a parent-child questionnaire filled out by their children before assigning the parents to two Experimental (case) and control groups. • Selecting 5 high-scored parents as the peer-parents with their consent and training them parenting skills during four 3-hour workshop (one-month course = once a week) by the researcher at Sobheroyesh School. • Holding workshops in the form of fiving speeches, question-answer practices and role-play using instructional videos meanwhile the peers are practicing the training course. • Verifying the capabilities of peers in training sessions immediately after the end of the course by the corresponding psychologist in the present study and the parent-child relationship is assessed using the results of the questionnaire. • Giving interventions by the trained peers to the parents in the experimental (case) group. • Re-assessing parent-child relationship 1 day and 6 months after the intervention and analyzing the results. Time: 12 Months. Primary Outcome: parent-child relationship.

The present study is based on convenience sampling method at the first stage. Parents (father or mother) who would like to participate in the present study are enrolled after their consent reached. Their names are written on some pieces of papers and inserted in a box which are taken out of the box one by one by a third-party person. Names with odd number and names with even number are respectively put in experimental (case) and control groups. The draw continues until each group reaches 30 people. It should be noted that assigning parents (fathers or mothers) to two groups of experimental and control is done after the peer group has been selected among the parents (fathers or mothers) who have all the inclusion criteria of the present study.

Description
Intervention 2: experimental (case) group. In the present study, the intervention of training parenting skills is based on a positive parenting program which is held in the form of four 3-hour workshops for one moths (one session per week consecutively) by the peers for the parents (fathers or mothers) in the experimental (case) group. The training course is held at Sobheroyesh school. The workshops are in the forms of giving speeches, question-answer practices, role-play using instructional movies. In order to motivate the parents for their constant attendance at the training sessions, a small present is intended and they will be served and welcomed. The parent-child relationship is re-assessed 1 day and 6 months once the intervention is accomplished and the results will be statistically analyzed.

Description
Intervention 1: peer group. The initial assessment of parent-child relationship is performed using a parent-child questionnaire filled out by their children in order to select the peer group before assigning the parents to experimental and control groups. To this end, 5 parents who score higher than the rest of parents after the completion of questionnaire will be selected as the peer group with their consent reached. In order to empower the peers to be able to give interventions to other groups, they are trained parenting skills based on a positive parenting program in the form of four 3-hour workshops for one moths (one session per week consecutively) by the researcher; meanwhile, the peers practice the training course. Immediately after the end of the course, the capabilities of peers in training are verified by the corresponding psychologist in the present study and the results of parent-child relationship are re-assessed in a session in coordination with the peers. Afterwards, the peers train the experimental (case) group.

Description
Intervention 3: control group. There will not be any intervention on the control group in the present study. The parent-child relationship is re-assessed 1 day and 6 months once the intervention is accomplished on the experimental group and the results will be statistically analyzed. Once the study is fulfilled, the intervention will be performed for the control group for its morale.
