Protocol summary
The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of curcumin on serum triglyceride levels in patients with hypertriglyceridemia taking statins. Subjects with a history of hyperlipidemia taking a statin and have a fasting triglyceride level of > 150 mg/dL will be recruited in this study. The study groups will be assigned to receive 500 mg/day curcumin (n= 50) or placebo (n= 50) for a period of 8 weeks. Blinding will be used for the patients, researchers and the statistician. Curcumin and placebo capsules will be encoded by another person, who is not a member of the research team. These codes will be remained confidential until statistical analysis of the results is done. The shape, weight and color of placebo capsules are as same as the original drug (curcumin). Patients are randomized based on the tables of random numbers of the Fleiss book into drug and placebo groups. Then, these random codes will be assigned to patients in sealed envelopes to observe allocation concealment. A history of renal diseases, malabsorption syndrome, biliary obstruction, cancers, or inflammatory or systemic diseases, taking non-statin lipid-lowering drugs, pregnancy or breast-feeding, fasting triglycerides > 400 mg/dl are exclusion criteria. The blood samples will be taken after 12 hours of fasting at baseline and after the intervention period. Serum levels of lipid profile (including total cholesterol, LDL-C, HDL-C and triglycerides), lipoprotein (a), the glycemic indices (including FBG, insulin and HbA1c), adiponectin, leptin and CRP will be measured in all samples and compared between the two study groups.

شرکت کنندگان در این مطالعه شامل مردان و زنان بين 18 تا 65 سال دارای سابقه هیپرلیپیدمی تحت درمان با حداکثر دوز استاتین و دارای سطح تری گلیسرید ناشتا بیش از 150 میلی گرم بر دسی لیتر می باشند. حدود 50 فرد بصورت تصادفی تحت درمان با کوکورمین (500 میلی گرم روزانه) و 50 نفر تحت درمان با پلاسبو بمدت 8 هفته قرار میگیرند. کورسازی برای بیماران، پژوهشگران و تحلیل کنندگان تا انتهای مطالعه صورت میگیرد. بطوری که در ابتدای مرحله اجرایی تحقیق، بسته های حاوی کپسولهای کورکومین و پلاسبو توسط فردی غیرپژوهشگر به صورت A و B کد گذاری خواهد گردید. اطلاع از کدها تا زمانی که آنالیزهای آماری تحقیق به پایان رسیدند نزد فرد غیرپژوهشگر بصورت محرمانه باقی خواهد ماند. همچنین پلاسبو شامل کپسولهایی است که از نظر شکل، وزن و رنگ دقیقا مشابه کپسولهای کورکومین میباشد. تصادفی سازی بیماران با استفاده از جداول اعداد تصادفی کتاب Fleiss انجام میشود. سپس کدهای تصادفی با رعایت allocation concealment در پاکت های درب بسته برای تجویز دارو لحاظ میگردد. سابقه ابتلا به بیماریهای کلیوی، سندرم سوء جذب، انسداد صفراوی، بدخیمی ها و بیماریهای سیستمیک و التهابی، بارداری یا شیردهی، مصرف داروی پایین آورنده چربی غیر از استاتین و تری گلیسرید بیش از 400 میلی گرم بر دسی لیتر معیارهای خروج مطالعه میباشند. از شرکت کنندگان در ابتدا و انتهای مطالعه نمونه گیری خون بعمل امده و نمایه توده بدنی تعیین میگردد. سطح کامل پروفایل لیپیدی، لیپوپروتئین(a) همراه شاخص های گلایسمیک (قند ناشتا، انسولین، HbA1c)، آدیپونکتین، لپتین وHS-CRP نیز در هر نمونه تعیین و بین دو گروه مقایسه میگردد.

The participants will be asked to take one 500 mg/day capsule, which was contained in an unlabeled for a period of 8 weeks.

Protocol summary
Study aim
Determining the effect of curcumin bergamot supplement on blood triglyceride
Design
Clinical trial, randomized, double-blind, randomized control group of 40 patients. Randomization is done using a valid website and 4-block method.
Settings and conduct
This clinical trial will be performed in the special clinic of Sedigheh Tahereh Hospital. Curcumin bergamot and placebo are given to the patient in exactly the same packages. Patients and researchers will not be aware of the type of intervention.
Participants/Inclusion and exclusion criteria
Age 18 to 65 years
Fasting blood triglycerides above 150 mg / dL
Taking statins
Intervention groups
Intervention group Capsules containing curcumin and bergamot each contain 100 mg of curcumin and 200 mg of bergamot once a day. Control group 1 capsule each containing 300 mg of lactose
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the implementation of the project is delayed. In addition, some problems in providing supplements and problems regarding budget allocation caused this project delay.
Personal problems of some colleagues in performing clinical procedures forced us to recruit new colleagues to perform the project.

Randomization is done individually. Entry of each patient into the intervention or control group is done randomly with the help of 4 blocking. This is done using a reputable random number generation website. (Random number generation website:

Blinding description
The study will be double blinded so that the researcher and the subjects will not know which group they belong to. For blinding, curcumin bergamot and placebo capsules are prepared in the same shape, color, and size. These capsules are coded by someone other than the researchers (A and B) and then the capsules are given to patients. Until the end of the study and after analyzing the data, researchers will not know about the intervention and control groups.
